Call for Artwork by Women Veterans

Project Summary

VAP is honored to partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Center for Women
Veterans (CWV) to lead the call for artwork created by women veterans for display at 10 VA medical
centers around the United States. The call for artwork will begin in December 2016 and the project will
launch in March 2017 to coincide with Women’s History Month as well as the 100-year anniversary of
women being allowed to enlist in the US military with military rank and pay. VAP will lead a coalition of
arts organization who focuses on fostering, encouraging and promoting veteran artists as they continue
their journey in the arts.

The Artwork

The call for art will result in the selection of 10 women veteran artists whose digital still prints and
storyboards will be exhibited together at 10 VA medical campuses across the country. Alongside prints of
paintings, photography, and mixed media will be headshots of the veterans and a short bio of their military
and creative journey. The images on the storyboard may show the women veteran in uniform, conducting
a mission or serving, as well an “after’ photo of how she is engaging in her community presently. We
believe this is a powerful narrative that shows women veterans as not only a key part of our military but
as active participants in our communities across America.
